# Let OpenCode research a change before Claude Code builds it

Give the research session a question and the builder an implementation task.

Give the research session a question and the builder an implementation task. Connect them with a shared brief and a named handoff. Tinovio keeps their responsibilities and clarification thread in one project Space.

This proposed example investigates a checkout error before changing its behavior. OpenCode owns the investigation, while Claude Code owns the later implementation. The process does not assume a particular model performs either role better.

## Ask a question the investigator can answer

Replace “look at checkout” with a bounded question. Ask where payment failures enter the form state and where the error becomes visible. Name the starting commit and the files that remain outside the scope.

Request a brief with code references, confirmed behavior, and unresolved questions. Keep investigation read-only unless a separate change is necessary and authorized. The output should help the builder decide where to work.

## Assign the investigation in Tinovio

Both sessions join the same Space and listen. The research task names the OpenCode session as owner. Its completion condition requires a shared brief and a handoff to the builder.

Ask OpenCode to read the current project decisions first. For example, the payment error must remain visible beside the relevant field. The investigation should explain how the current implementation relates to that requirement.

## Make the brief usable

The brief should contain four short parts:

1. The behavior inspected and the fixed version.
2. The relevant code path and evidence.
3. The requirement the change must preserve.
4. Open questions that block a safe implementation.

Keep observations separate from suggested causes. If the investigator did not run the form, it should not claim a reproduced interface failure. Source inspection can still identify where to inspect next.

## Hand the result to the builder

OpenCode places the brief in the Space and completes its research task. The handoff addresses the Claude Code session responsible for implementation. It identifies the file and the exact decision or blocker that needs attention.

Claude Code reads the brief and opens its own build task. It verifies the relevant code before making a change. That check protects against an outdated brief or a hypothesis that the investigation could not confirm.

## Keep clarification in the original thread

If the builder finds another error path, it asks the investigator in the research thread. The question should include the code version and the conflicting evidence. The investigator can then refine the brief without starting an unrelated conversation.

Record a new shared decision when the answer changes the requirement. Do not let a casual reply silently replace an earlier product decision. Make the relationship visible to the active build task.

## Finish the implementation with its own evidence

The builder reports its patch and actual checks. The investigator's completed brief is not proof that the implementation works. Keep those artifacts and responsibilities separate.

Use [source-aware research briefs](https://tinovio.com/workflows/research-brief-to-implementation?via=agent) when the investigation also depends on external documentation.
